JUN:
“It’s been quite a while since I joined Johnny’s. Even now that I’m a part of Arashi, there aren’t many changes in me, but I do feel a great sense of responsibility. Before, I was fighting alone in Johnny’s, now out of the blue I have 4 more buddies, of course this is something worth to be happy about. Other than positive competing, if anyone fails to show a certain personality of his own, he will be covered up by the rest of the 4 members. Honestly, ‘YOU are also a member of this new group’ when I heard Mr. Kitagawa say that, I was really happy.”

NINO:
“I never thought I would be chosen, because I’m always doing things which I myself am not even confident of achieving. ‘Even if I can’t, someone else can take my place,’ I will sometimes have this thought when I am working. But when I heard Mr. Kitagawa say ‘Why don’t YOU debut as Arashi also, gotta work harder then,’ I was filled with gratitude. But being happy is just for a short while, after this happy feeling, I suddenly felt this heavy pressure. Because I’ve always held the thought that someone else can always replace me, but now I am a member of Arashi. If anything happened, who can take my place? When I think of this, I feel very pressured.”

AIBA:
“When people in the Jimusho told me, I was shocked. “You are chosen as a member of the new group, so you gotta work hard!”. On that day which I was first informed, I was still shaking when I walked back home. Before, I was just one of the many Johnny’s. Unlike Koichi and the rest, who are working with the burden of their solo performance or their group, so I am quite relaxed. After forming the group, other than having to take care of my health, I have to make sure I do my own part. And since I am already a part of the new group, I must never lose to the other 4 members in my performance. I am really thankful that Mr. Kitagawa chose me. From now on, I will bear the name of ‘Arashi’, bringing out the best in my performance.”

SHO:
“I was shocked! I never thought I could be a part of the new group. When I was a Johnny’s Junior, I can do what I like, I can get on TV, these are sufficient for me already. But suddenly I was told that I am debuting as a member of ‘Arashi’. I didn’t know how to react! When we were traveling to Hawaii on the plane, I didn’t know exactly what I was feeling. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. ‘What should I say during the press conference?’ I kept thinking about this, and I was nervous to death.”

OHNO:
“Never thought that they’d ever choose me. Among the 5 members, I am considered as the one with most experience, yet my performance isn’t very outstanding either. But because I am older then all of them, I sorta understand that the Jimusho want me to lead them. Although I know that I should work hard from now on, my feelings are still complicated. When I told everyone ‘I will debut as a group’, my mom was so happy ‘quick, tell all our friends and family!’. When I heard her say that, I quickly stopped her ‘no, maybe after the press conference and the release of our debut song!’. That saved the news from being ‘broadcasted’ to everyone else. My mom comes from the countryside, so it’s no wonder she’d be proud of such things.”

1. When was your first love?
O : fifth year of junior school (about 10 years old)
S  : if you mean really falling in love with someone, probably 1st year of high school.
N : when i was born? I cant remember.
A : 7 or 8
J  : i think I was in nursery school.

2. What was she like?
O : she was my classmate, a really pretty girl but she left the school. The
     whole class was friends with her I may have gone out with her with
     friends.
S  : A girl form Hungary called Gabriella.
N :  i cant remember.
A :  bright and fast runner and cute
J  :  I had so many girls I liked.(laughs). I had people in the same year
      and I liked my teachers too. my teacher only used to call me by my
      first name. I really liked her.

3. When did you first confess your love to someone?
O :  15 or 16 y/o
S  : 5th year of junior school. On our class trip in the night we had like a
      confession night and I just kinda confessed along with the flow of
      things.
N : I think high school.
A : in high school, the girl was in the same basketball team as me.
J  : probably in nursery.

4. How did you confess?
O : I confessed using a poke bell (pocket bell - its basically a really really
     really old mobile phone..you can only send messages). And the reply
     was on the poke bell too. Such memories!
S  : I was straight and said “I like u”
N : i think it was in a play.
A : in high school, it was me, my friend, a girl my friend likes and a girl I
     liked and we went out together and ten split into two and confessed
J  : I think I used to tell my teacher I liked her.

5. Has anyone ever confessed to you?
O : in junior/high school.
S  : Yep
N :  I cant remember..
A :  last year of junior school.
J  :  of course I have!! Who do you think I am!

6. How did they confess to you?
O : I think I was given chocolates on valentines day which was their
     confession
S : 5th year of junior school, I was given chocolates by a girl who was 1
     level ahead of me
N : I don’t really have any interest in love life so I don’t really remember.
A : I was so happy, I was called out by my friend and he said xxx wants
     to talk to you and then she confessed to me
J  : told straight or told on the phone

7. Tell us about a memorable valentines day you have had -
O : Im not really into valentines day…OH! the year before last (year) my
     mum gave me a chocolate in the shape of a gorilla I ate it right in
     front of her
S : well the chocolates I got in junior school, were in the shape of
     footballs and I used to love playing football and was so happy I kept
     them in my school drawer but before I knew it they have melted….
N : everyone around me used to get worked up but I had no interest.
A : in high school, all the girls brought `guilt chocolates’ (chocolates you
     give out to guys who you ‘have to give’ to..(e.g work people…
     classmates). But one girl came to my house and gave me one and
     she was like “cos everyone got one” but I knew my one was special.   
J  : ive got less and less as I have got older. Since i graduated I have
     hardly got any

8. Have you ever given a present on white day?
O : no …never….when is white day again?? March the …? Before I know it,
      it has passed...
S  : My parents usually bought a return gift for me but I thought I should
      buy something myself for them (girl mentioned above) so I got her a
      mug from the football team that I used to support…as if she would
      want that
N  : nope.. I never gave a return present so the other person would just
      give up..rude right?
A  : yep. I was given loads of chocolate so my mum got me chocolates to
      give to girls who I thought gave me chocolates.
J   : Of course I have. I used to go out and buy marshmallows

9. Do you believe in love at first sight. Have you ever experienced it?
O : All the time! I look at people and think.. Oh they are nice. I think
     liking someone at first sight can lead to love.
S : I haven’t
N : def def yes!! I have!! I always see people I like the look of but it
     usually ends with just that moment.
A : yeah I think so. In my case, I have never experienced meeting
     someone and thinking straight away I like them
J  : I have never experienced love at first sight although I sometimes
      look at people and think they are cute

10. When you got a girlfriend would you tell your family and friends?
O : I wouldn’t say or do anything.
S : if I was asked I would say but I wouldn’t say it specially.
N : no I won’t
A : when the relationship is steady
J  : if it was the right timing I would say

11. If you liked someone would you tell them straight away?
O : YES! Cos I like them. I wouldn’t worry over it. I would tell the person
     I like them straight away (laughs).
S : No.. I would wait until the very last moment to confess.
N : it would depend on the person
A : im not that great at it.. im really not good when I am alone with
     someone I like
J  : no I wouldn’t

12. What is the longest that you have liked someone but the feeling was only one way (i.e. they didn’t like him back)?
O : I think about 2 years
S : I still havnet confessed to Gabriella so…about 10 or so years
N : as if I would remember.
A : I dunno
J  : about two years.. those two years were tough

13. Have you ever been broken hearted?
O : yes
S : yes
N : i have
A : yep
J  : I have..yeah I have

14. What do you do, how do you become when you are broken hearted?
O : go for a drink and forget about it.
S : huh?...i dunno.. Ive forgotten…
N : it depends, whether it was one way or two way love. And if we were
     going out then there would be memories too right?
A : Id be like, “ that’s life! Move on”
J  : its depends on the time and place. I can’t really say.

15. What type of women do you like?
O : someone who has the same pace as me
S : i don’t really split people into types , as long as our conversations
     match
N : I don’t have a type
A : someone who has the same opinions/morals as me
J  : I don’t have

16. What sort of types don’t you like?
O : fussy, liars..
S : I don’t have
N : I don’t think I would like to be around someone I don’t like….. stupid
     people? i don’t think I like those sorts of people
A : someone who says bad things about someone
J  : I have less than I used to. Although there are people who I just don’t
     get along with. Before, I used to meet people and
     go in with a negative view and my acceptance of people was very
     small

17. What is the maximum age gap for a potential partner?
O : none
S : I don’t think it really matters. When I was in high school I saw people
     who were one or two years older to be really mature and I really
     liked them
N : however old.. it doesn’t matter to me … I think it is just other people
     who have a problem with it .. I don’t.
A : I don’t really care
J  : I have never dated someone cos of their age so I don’t know

18. What female action do you think is cute?
O : I think its cute when they look a little childish ne?
S : someone who will serve out food, although I am the type of person
     who shares out food too, but I would want someone who could do it
     before me and then I would be like “ oo..you got in there before me!”
N : I think everything is cute… people with a cute smile is nice
A : I think its cute when someone is being reserved
J  : when they put their hair behind their ears

19. What action would put you off someone?
O : I wouldn’t like someone who from the start sets rules and decisions
S : I don’t really have any but I wouldn’t like someone who wouldn’t take
     off their shoes before sitting on a seat etc.
N : I don’t have a paticular one just cos they are girls. Although just
     people in general , there are habits I don’t like

O : Notting hill

     and his girlfriend I was the one crying the most

22. If you were being confessed to, what situation and what words would be good?
O : someone who said “I LOVE YOU” just straight, through a poke bell. I
     wanna remember that feeling. But i've never been confessed to face
     to face so I would like to know what that is like too
S : Bridge in Yokohama. I went there the other day and it was so
     beautiful. Although I don’t think I wanna go again. I don’t really mind
     where. I would rather it face to face rather than on the phone though.
N : a situation that the other person feels comfortable and as long as it
     came accross to me that the other person liked me. So whatever
     really.
A  : its nice to be told straight or the long way round
J   : any. Although I would prefer if it wasn’t before work cos I would get
      really nervous and wouldn’t be able to work properly

23. When you get a girlfriend would you want to see her everyday?
O : no not at all. Although If it was someone who was really similar to me
     then I would wanna be with them all the time. It would be good that,
     even when we are together, we can relax and chill out
S : no … I think there is a limit… also im so busy seeing all my friends

A : it would be good if we could have good amounts of space. Its
     important to have your own time too

O : I don’t mind. But if I received a text then I would definitelly reply.

O : maybe go home…..no I would wait 30 mins…although I would
     probably wait longer, cos while you are waiting you could just walk
     around the town
S : how annoying! probably go and waste time..like a cd shop. I can
     spend about 2 hours in a cd shop
N : I would try and wait for as long as it took. If I had my games console
     I would stay until the batteries ran out
A : ive never had to wait for someone
J  : I would make them buy me a coffee

31. What film would you watch on your date?
O : kiiroi namida!
S : anything..although I would prefer not a romantiv movie.. if I was to
     go and see one I would go alone

     feeling the other person would be like “ go on your own!”
J  : right now, Letters from iwojima…cos I wanna see it!

O : Okinawa music

33. What meal would you want your girlfriend to make you?
O : NABE (its kinda like stew, like meat and veg etc in a big bowl thing…
     like sukiyaki if you know what that is ). A really spicy hot one
S : If they were making for me anything.. I think anything would be nice

34. What meal would you make your g/f?
O : potato gyoza ( watch kodomo no bangoham !!!!)

N : I wouldn’t make anything. I don’t think making food for someone is a
     sign of love. I wouldn’t want someone to ask me..” will you make
     something”. If they told me what they wanted to eat then I would try
     my best.
A : recently I have started to be able to cook from cookery books.
     Before I was like..how much is a pinch of salt and what colour is
     golden brown. So now I can cook what I want. I am the son a
     Chinese restaurant owner.so please make all requests Chinese food
J  : Pasta. With pepporoni

35. Would you still go out with your friends who are girls even if you had a girlfriend?
O : yes
S : I would go ! go!..cos friends are friends

N : as long as it wasn’t something bad then whatever

38. What wouldn’t you like ur g/f to do?
O : to be retrained and stalked
S : nothing
N : I don’t really have anything. I think you would have to like everything
     of someone to go out with them.
A : being told “I like be yonjun”?? (you know the Korean star who is
     really famous in japan)
J  : if I was lenient then nothing. (And then aiba chan came along and sat
     next to jun and interviewer asked how about a date with aiba chan.
     And aiba chan said “ we would have so much fun!”) No I would hate
     that!! definetly not!

39. What would u do If you started to like someone else who wasn’t your g/f?
O : break up with the g/f and go out with the other person I like
S : that would be bad..probably I would have to break up
N : I wouldn’t do anything. That’s why im not so serious when it comes to
     love
A : this is such a bad position. But I don’t think it can’t be helped cos we
     are only human
J  : it would depend then

40. What would you do if you liked a friends g/f?
O : I wouldn’t
S : def not! Cos it’s a friends girlfriend!

O : if I were to have any, 2. I had an older sister so maybe just a boy.
S : 2 or 3…its fun to have brothers and sisters that are not close in age
N : hmmm.. I haven’t thought about it
A : 2-3. I can play catchball if I have boys and girls would be cute. I
     personally think 2 is a good number cos you can have sibling fights
     and you can also play together. Right now we are doing a program
     with kids and I sometimes wonder what my childs face would look like

O : nonono!
S : sometimes..i did want the letter翔(sho) to be in my children’s name
     but in the children’s case I thought it might be a bit of a pain
N : of course not!

50. What would you do if your daughter got a boyfriend?
O : id be so worried and be like…omg!
S : I think id be happy, we could drink together!
N : well with the rate im going no… I cant even imagine it..in letters form
     iwojima my character was married and my wife was pregnant with my
     baby and all around me was criticism
A : I think it would be good. Its better to be popular. When she gets
     married I wanna make the speech!
J  : I think I would accept it.. crying

Ohno Satoshi

Other than Sho, other members call him “Ri-da-”,  (Sho calls him “Ohno-kun” or “Satoshi-kun”). Nino, in his cell phone site Nikki, calls Ohno “Pan-ya-san (Mr. Bread House)”. Among fans, other than the name “Oh-chan” which原知宏 gave, “ri-da-” is also rather popular. Recently, in Nino’s radio show Baystorm, he called Ohno “Sami-”. “When Sami- goes for a meal with ‘big-shots’ he will foot the bill” – says Nino. Sometimes you will hear “Ojisan” coming from Nino. However, Nino also uses this nickname for Aiba, so it’s hard to differentiate. Recently, different people started calling Ri-da- “Captain”. When Arashi had a gathering drink (for Nino who’s leaving for America), with an excuse saying that other groups also call their leader Ri-da-, Arashi members decided that they can’t be the same. It’s just that, does Arashi have some kind of boom or something? They always change the nicknames for each other until it’s hard to tell who’s who. (Now, “Sami-” isn’t heard at all)

Sakurai Sho

Most people call him “Sakurai-kun”. But members Aiba calls him “Sho-chan”.
There was also a time where Nino calls him “Sho-pin”. Again, Nino mentioned Sho in him ‘Game Nikki’ as “Sho-pin”. In Nino’s Nikki, he called Sho “Tenki-yohou-san (weather forecaster)”. It seemed like his name in Kisarazu Cat’s Eye “Bambi” is also heard on the streets. Older fans calls him “Sakku”. People call him “Sakusho” in school, his juniors call him “Sakusho-senpai” or “Sakusho-san”. In ‘G no Arashi!’, he’s called “Bukyou na Daijin (useless minister)”. In ‘Game Nikki’, talking about his solo con ‘The Show’, Nino called him “Sho Double-U (Sho+W)”
 
Aiba Masaki

Most people call him “Aiba-chan”. (In his junior days, because he’s so innocently cute, other performers called him “Super-Idol Aiba-chan”, that was when people started calling him “Aiba-chan”). 明石家 calls him “Akiba-kun”. In “Mashyuu TV”, they call him “Bacchi” and introduced him as “Johnny’s Jimusho’s new Ocharake Boy”. Yokoyama Yu calls him “Kappe”

Ninomiya Kazunari

Most fans, and members, calls him “Nino”, some fans call him “Ninomi”, “Nino-san”, “Ninomi-”. In his Nikki he sometimes calls his own fans “Ninomimania (Ninomi Mania, is it?)”. In private (Aiba/Jun’s radio show on How’s It Going DVD Suppin Arashi Nino Camera’s Sho), they call him “Kazu”. When he’s acting as the main character, among the casts and crews, Sho (sometimes Aiba too), will call him “Kazunari-kun” Among Arashi fans, there are also people who calls him “Kazu-chan”. At home, he’s called “Kazu”, he says that no one calls him “Kazunari”.
Some older staffs who knows him well sometimes calls him “Kazunari”. Among these people, there are still people who mis-read his name as “Kazuya”, and he has given up correcting them.

Matsumoto Jun

Most people call him “Matsujun”. His seniors, bosses (dunno how to translate that) also calls him “Matsujun”. Among members, Aiba, Ohno and Sho calls him “Matsujun”. Nino calls him “Jun-kun” sometimes “Jun” only. Again in Nino’s Nikki, he called Jun “Pro-Golf-san” (Jun, who finds it hard to wake up in the morning, is tensed when he joined the Golf competition in Summer 05’), now he calls him “Jun-kun” back.  Aiba, in his jokes, calls him “Matsumoto-chan”, while Ohno and Sho regards him as “Matsumoto-san”. At first, they called him “Kame (turtle)”. In the end of an event of frying (well that’s what the katakana and kanji says… dunno what that is), he posed like a big boss. Once again, he gets to be “Ijirare Kyara- (character which instructs people)” and “Hetare Kyara- (character which has people under him)”, members call him that as well. When he was in high school (same as Hirayama Aya), they call him “Mattsun”. There was once, Sho thought it was fashionable, and called him “Tsumoyun” – (MatsumotoJun), however it didn’t become a trend, . When he was filming ‘Hana Yori Dango’, because he was acting as Domyouji and his clothes were all ‘prince-like’, he was called “Ouji (young prince)”. In ‘G no Arashi!’, because he likes minor sports, members call him “Minor Ichiban Chyou (the best at minor sports)”. In Laser Ramon HG, he’s call “Aniki (big brother)”. The members sometimes regard him as “S”, as in ‘G no Arashi!’ he’s called “Do-S Banchyou (Do Sadistic Captain)”. He’s very experienced in love, so Aiba calls him “Renai Banchyou (Love Captain)”, from ‘G no Arashi!’. There was once Jun acted like a king in ‘G no Arashi!’, so Sho called him “King”.

One of my favourite scenes from YTM's last chapter, is when Mimura told Takako, that Taro will be leaving for America at 5pm. Mimura's simply enjoying teasing her.

So Takako runs out to catch up with Taro, and the following conversation (briefly) took place -

Taro: What's wrong?
Takako: Are you really leaving?
Taro: If I don't leave at 5pm, I won't be able to make it.
Takako: That. That is too sudden!
Taro: Sudden? What...what's wrong?
Takako: We have not said our goodbyes!
Taro: Oh oh....goodbye.
Takako: Is that all? Is that all for us?
Taro: I'm just going for my part-time job.
